This course examines influential works of “Caribbean Poetics” from a literary, philosophical, and political perspective. It explores the distinctiveness of this literary tradition and its contributions to thinking about race, colonialism, language and the sacred. Readings will include Édouard Glissant, Derek Walcott, and Edwidge Danticat, among others.
